Setting up your baby's nursery can be exciting. The need to nest, the urge to clean, organize and prepare, becomes stronger as the pregnancy progresses.

There are so many items to choose from it can take a lot of work to know what you need. In this blog post, I will list the top five items you need for your baby's nursery and explain why each is important. Let's get started!

Does My Newborn Need A Nursery?

As a new parent, you might wonder if your newborn needs a nursery. The answer is that it depends on your circumstances. If you have the Space and the budget, setting up a dedicated nursery can be a great way to create a calm and relaxing environment for your baby.

However, it is optional, and many families choose to use a spare bedroom or even the baby's crib in the parent's bedroom for the first six months of the baby's life.

There are a few key things to consider when deciding whether or not to set up a nursery.

Do you have Space? Giving your baby a designated space for their crib is essential for a lovely bedtime routine and sleep. However, Space can be a big deal! First, think about how much space you have available.

My third baby's room was so small that I am not sure it was even considered a bedroom. I greased the door jam and squeezed a crib and a chair into the room, but that was all he needed; it was lovely, cozy, and intimate.

Parents often need to get creative if they live in a small apartment or don't have extra room to spare. Getting creative with Space does not mean your baby is getting less. Only some kids get to have their own bedroom, and many parents need siblings to share a room.

I just finished working with Tripletts in New York City. The family had limited Space, so we converted their dining room into a nursery for all three boys! How often do you use your traditional dining room anyway?; this was an excellent solution for this swiftly growing family.

What is your budget? Baby furniture and accessories can be expensive, so setting up a nursery can be a significant financial investment.

If you are on a tight budget, you should wait until your child is older before setting up a dedicated room.

What is your parenting style? If you plan to co-sleep with your baby, a nursery might not be necessary. If you choose to co-sleep, it's a good idea to think long-term. How do you envision your baby's sleep at a year or two, or three years old?

If your parenting vision is teaching your child how to sleep independently, you will need some distance between yourself and your baby at night, and then a nursery can be helpful. If you do not have the Space, a room divider like this is a great option!

Ultimately, whether or not to set up a nursery is a personal decision. There is no right or wrong answer – it all depends on your individual circumstances.

If you decide to create a dedicated space for your baby, plenty of resources are available to help you get started, including online guides and store lists of the best items for baby nurseries.

What Is the Purpose Of Blackout Shades In a Babies' Nursery?

Is the nursery flooded with light? Natural light in a baby's nursery is lovely for when they are not sleeping, but install blackout shades when setting up a baby nursery to allow them to understand when it is time to sleep and wake up.

I highly suggest blackout shades. They are imperative for a baby's and an adult's sleep. There are several reasons for this.

Humans are supposed to be asleep when the sun goes down and awake during daylight; this is tricky for humans to follow in our modern world. In the summer, the sun comes up too early for a baby to wake up (and parents too), so blocking the light can help your baby get the sleep they need.

Blackout shades can help create a darker environment ideal for sleeping babies. Infants (and adults) generally sleep better in a dark room, and blackout shades can help to create that environment. I suggest getting Sleepy Time light-blocking tracks, which are so useful for light seepage on the sides of your window. ti

Blackout shades can also help reduce noise levels in the nursery; this is important because babies are often disturbed by loud noises like siblings being loud or a dog barking from an Amazon delivery!

Blackout shades can also help to keep the room cooler. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a 69-71 Degree room. A cool room is essential because overheating is a risk factor for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

Does My Baby Need A White Noise Machine In The Nursery?

How loud is your environment/family? A white noise machine is one of the most important items you can have for your baby's nursery! Remember, they are fresh out of the womb, which is a very noisy place! They are used to hearing swishing and whooshing sounds and are comforted by noise in their Mothe'r womb.

As a new parent, you want to do everything possible to ensure your baby sleeps peacefully and restfully. One tool that you may be considering is a white noise machine. White noise machines emit a constant, low-level sound that can help to mask other household noises and create a calming environment for your baby.

There is some debate over whether white noise is effective in helping babies sleep, but many parents find that it does make a difference. If you're considering using a white noise machine, choose one that offers adjustable sound levels and timer settings to customize the noise level to your child's needs.

Consider the size and weight of the machine, as you'll want to take it with you on vacations easily. Most noise machines can be packed in a suitcase with no issue. Finding the right white noise machine for your nursery can be daunting with so many different options. I love the Marpac Yoga Dohm. I like it because it has an internal fan, so the whooshing white noise comes from the sound of air and not a recorded sound. You can control the level by opening and closing the air holes to find the perfect level for your baby.

Taking the time to find the right one will help ensure that your baby has a peaceful sleep environment.

What Kind Of Chairs Are Best For Feeding In A Nursery?

What kind of chair will be the most comfortable for feeding? No pressure, but choosing a great chair like this chair from Pottery Barn Kids, is quite important. I worked with a Mom who was breastfeeding her baby in a stiff wooden dining room chair. Her life and back pain drastically changed when she invested in a comfy chair. Feeding time is an important part of the day for any baby, and choosing the right chair can make the experience more enjoyable for both the child and the parent. There are a few things to consider when selecting a feeding chair for a nursery.

First, choose a chair that is comfortable for both the baby and the parent. The chair should have support to prevent back pain and have a padded seat or extra comfort. Choose a chair that is easy to clean. Look for chairs with removable covers that can be machine-washed or made from wipe-clean materials. Finally, select a chair that is the right size for your needs. Many caregivers may use this chair.

Ultimately, the best feeding chair is one that meets the unique needs of both the baby and the parent.

Will My Newborn Need A Night Light In Their Room?

Is my baby's nursery too dark? For many new parents, creating a safe and soothing environment for their baby to sleep in is one of the most daunting tasks. While various products on the market are designed to help babies sleep, one question that often comes up is whether or not a night light is necessary. There are a few things to remember when deciding to use a night light.

When you have a newborn, you may need a night light to see during feeds and diaper changes. Put a night light in the hallway and open the door; this way, the light is not directly in the room to disrupt your baby's sleep. Keep your baby's age in mind. Newborns and young infants tend to be more sensitive to light than older babies and toddlers. As a result, it's generally advisable to avoid using a night light for newborns.

Ultimately, whether or not to use a night light is a personal decision that should be based on your individual needs and preferences; but a baby does not need a nightlight. A child typically will ask for or needs a nightlight between the age of two and three. If you choose to use a night light, get one that has a dimmer and that does not emit blue light, which is not good for sleeping.

What Should I Look For In A Crib Mattress?

How do I pick the best mattress? Setting up a baby nursery can be an exciting time for any parent. There are many different things to consider, from the crib and dresser to the paint color and rug. But one of your most important decisions is choosing the right crib mattress. After all, your baby will spend a lot of time sleeping, so you want to ensure they are comfortable and safe. Here are a few things to look for when choosing a crib mattress:

  • First, you'll want to choose a firm and supportive mattress. A soft, plush mattress may be comfortable for adults, but it's not ideal for infants. Look for a mattress that's specifically designed for babies and is made of high-quality materials. Some mattresses are breathable, like the Newton Baby Mattress. This mattress is fabulous as it can help calm your fears when a baby begins to roll.

  • Second, pay attention to the size of the mattress. Choosing a size that fits snugly inside your crib is vital so there are no gaps where your baby could get stuck. Most standard cribs use a 27 inches wide and 52 inches long mattress.

  • Third, consider the cover of the mattress. You'll want something that's easy to clean in case of accidents. Many mattresses come with removable covers that can be tossed into the washing machine. And look for a water-resistant or waterproof cover to protect the mattress from spills and leaks.

  • Finally, remember to compare prices. Crib mattresses can range in price from around $100 to $500 or more. Find something that fits your budget and provides the features and quality you want for your baby's sleeping Space.

With a little research, you should be able to find the perfect crib mattress for your nursery.

Should My Baby Have A Crib Bumper In Her Crib?

Do not get a bumper for your baby's crib. Crib bumpers are padded, quilted, or fabric-covered pads that line the inside of a crib and are often sold in coordinating sets with other nursery bedding. There are several factors to consider when making this decision.

The first is safety. Do not use a bumper. Bumper pads can pose a suffocation hazard, especially for younger babies still developing their motor skills. In addition, bumper pads can also interfere with the bars of the crib, potentially trapping the baby's head between them. For these reasons, do NOT use bumper pads.

Yes, babies move all over their cribs, and that is good! It is good for them to practice their new gross motor skills and find comfy positions. Most parents worry about their baby's head touching the rails of the crib. It happens not only because your baby is a mover and a shaker but also because babies like to nuzzle something.

Although it may seem that bumper pads can provide a soft surface for the baby to rest her head against and may help to prevent her from hitting her head on the hard bars of the crib, it is not safe to use any bumper, even a "breathable" one. If your baby looks stuck, jammed in a corner, or a lib is between the rail - GO IN and help them out of the situation. They will learn independently, but in the beginning, they will need help. Do not put anything in or on your baby's crib.

What Is The Best Baby Video Monitor?

Peace of mind. You want everything perfect for your little one, including choosing the right baby monitor. With so many different options on the market, knowing which one is right for you can be hard. To help you make the best decision, here is a look at some of the key features to look for in a baby monitor:

First and foremost, you want to make sure that the monitor has clear audio and video quality. After all, you want to see and hear your baby. Another critical consideration is range. You want to make sure that the monitor will work even if you're not in the same room as your baby. Some monitors have a limited range, while others can be used from anywhere, including your office.

Ultimately, the best baby monitor is the one that meets your specific needs. Take some time to consider the most important features, and then choose the monitor that fits those needs. I love the Nanit Pro video monitor. It allows you to watch in real-time, scroll back, and look through the night or nap. You can find the perfect baby monitor for your nursery with little research.

So, what do you need in your nursery? The answer to that question will be different for every family. But, by considering the purposes of each item and how they can benefit your baby, you can make an informed decision about what is best for your child.

Blackout shades are a great way to ensure a good night's sleep; white noise machines can help soothe and calm babies; chairs designed for feeding can make mealtime easier; crib mattresses come in a variety of types and thicknesses for comfort and safety; crib bumpers should never be used for any reason; video monitors give parents peace of mind while their baby sleeps.

Take some time to think about your specific needs and, then start shopping!
