How many times have you heard take "this" & do "that" to fix your sleepless nights? Taking "this" every night and doing "that" randomly leads nowhere fast and does not address the true story of your lack of sleep. I describe this running-in-place tactic as working from the outside in. My intention, when working with adults, is to explore their sleep issues and begin the course of working from the inside out. My goal is to partner with you to uncover the source of your sleepless nights.
“Being hit with insomnia is a lot like having your heart broken. You feel betrayed and sapped of vitality; what used to flow naturally and effortlessly is now agonizing. If you visit your doctor, not much shows up on examination. A lovelorn heart still pumps away, somehow oblivious to the gaping hole it harbors. An insomniac brain tethered to a fancy monitor usually just registers as awake. Although you may be certain some switch is stuck in the “on” position, it doesn’t show up on the scans. Despite your clean bill of health, both heartsickness and sleeplessness feel as if they have changed you, irreversibly, to the core. You muddle through your days and dread the approach of night. Instead of attending to your work or to your children, your mind continually drifts back toward your plight. Advice emanates from friends, strangers, doctors, TV, books, and magazines, all well-meaning and aiming to set you right: “You should get out more at night”; “Maybe it’s time for a vacation”; “Here, take this pill.”
